Allyson studied art at the University of Toronto and the Emily Carr Institute for Art and Design. She was born in England but grew up in Newfoundland and Pickering,Ontario. She has lived in Vancouver for over 35 years. She used to teach at the University of B.C. but now paints and writes full time. She is an Associate Signature member  of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
