Peonies are my favourite flowers and this title is taken from a line in a poem by Robert Frost ('these woods are lovely, dark, and deep'). Peonies are, for me, the most luscious and sensuous of flowers, with their soft satiny petals. ONe can lose oneself in the fragrance of their perfume.

I began by painting what I saw but then started to make changes for the sake of the design, treating it more as an abstract than just a representation.
